ACTIVITIES TODAY
MISSIONS - Our Missions focus is both global and local. Our global outreach includes Africa Outreach, Tsunami Aftershock and Water Wells for Africa. We also partner with India Outreach. Our local outreach includes service projects in the Southern California South Bay area through Sharefest, and in Yosemite National Park.
GLOBAL OUTREACH
AFRICA OUTREACH - This outreach includes sending a mission team to the country of Malawi, Africa to show the Jesus film in remote villages, evangelize and provide medical care. In addition our Pastoral staff provides teaching to the village pastors who have little access to formal biblical training. While there, we also dedicate some of the water wells that we have funded through Water Wells For Africa.
WATER WELLS FOR AFRICA - This outreach includes raising funds to install drinking water wells in remote villages in malawi, Africa. Because the country has been in drought for several years, surface water sources are drying up. Villagers must walk farther and dig deeper to find clean drinking water. One water well can provide clean abundant water to an entire village. Since 1997 Water Wells for Africa has installed nearly 100 water wells. See our other information at... Photos of Malawi taken by Matt Wignall can be seen at http://mattwignall.com/africa.
TSUNAMI AFTERSHOCK - a cooperative effort forged by the Breakwater with several local South Bay churches. This coalition provided funding to replace fishing boats lost during the Tsunami in southern India. We have also provided funds to feed the starving. The Breakwater is presently funding a local pastor who is starting a church in one of the 5 villages we have helped. We have assurance that our funds are being used wisely as we are working through personal contacts in the local region.
The Breakwater partners with India Outreach, a separately chartered mission, to bring training and medical help to the remote villages in India.
LOCAL OUTREACH -The Breakwater is an active partner with other local churches in completing Sharefest projects that are chosen for their community impact. Efforts include painting local park equipment and landscaping local schools. In addition, a member of our congregation has a food and clothing outreach to the needy in the beach area.
The Breakwater family annually organizes a Yosemite camping trip. During our week we don wet suits and snorkels and go dumpster diving...sort of. We pick up trash on the bottom of the Merced River and walk along the shore to gather up debris and trash. You'd be amazed at what is down there. Several hundred pounds of trash is removed each year.
